Dhenkanal: The quarantine stamping of returnees with indelible ink has left many people in Odisha with blisters and rashes allegedly due to use of substandard ink.
Advocate Jayanti Mohapatra of Dhenkanal district alleged that she developed rashes and burns after being stamped at Biju Patnaik International Airport upon her return from Bangalore on August 5.
“I was stamped with indelible ink upon my arrival at Bhubaneswar airport on August 5. Soon after I was stamped, I developed irritation and itching at the spot. The next morning, there was swelling & severe pain,” Mohapatra alleged.
This is not the very first instance of alleged allergies from such stamping. Many returnees had complained of developing skin infections after being stamped at border checkpoints, receiving stations or designated quarantine centres after their arrival.
Previously, dozens, who returned to Odisha from other states, took to the social media and complained about the substandard ink used for the quarantine stamp.
Notably, Odisha government on May 23, had ordered that all those returning to the State will have to be stamped with indelible ink on their right inner forearm at the border checkpoints, receiving stations or designated quarantine centres.
Comments on the matter from the concerned authorities could not be obtained. The story will be updated once a response is received from the officials.
