Bhubaneswar: With a single-day spike of 3144 cases, Odisha’s COVID-19 tally went up to 244142 on Thursday. Of the fresh cases, 1825 patients are from quarantine, while 1319 are local contact cases, informed State I&PR department.

As many as 13 districts reported a daily surge of over 100 cases. Khordha district recorded the highest 562 new cases, followed by Cuttack (243), Sambalpur (136), Angul (128), Kalahandi (124), Puri (122 cases).

As per government data, the death toll has jumped to 974 with 16 more fatalities in the last 24 hours - 4 from Balasore, 4 from Bhubaneswar, 2 from Kalahandi, 2 from Mayurbhanj, 2 from Nayagarh, while one each succumbed in Sundergarh and Jharsuguda districts. H&FW department shared the details of the patients who succumbed while under treatment at hospitals.

  • A 30-year-old female of Kalahandi district.
  • A 92-year-old male of Mayurbhanj district who was also suffering from Diabetes, Hypertension.
  • A 57-year-old male of Mayurbhanj district who was also suffering from Hypertension.
  • A 70-year-old male of Nayagarh district.
  • A 55-year-old female of Nayagarh district.
  • A 54-year-old male of Sundergarh district who was also suffering from Diabetes, Hypertension & Chronic Kidney Disease.

So far, 213672 patients have recuperated from the disease in Odisha, while the active case count stands at 29443.

Official reports reveal 49909 samples were tested on Wednesday for COVID-19 that include 8051 RT-PCR, 41729 samples via Antigen testing, and 129 samples via Truenat testing, taking the number of samples tested cumulatively across the state to 3619509.
