Bhubaneswar: Odisha continues to witness a steep rise in the coronavirus curve with the detection of highest 1,699 new cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the COVID-19 tally in the State reached 40,717 on Thursday.

Of the fresh cases, 1,073 have been detected from various quarantine centres while 626 are local contact cases.

According to the information provided by the Information and Public Relations department, maximum new cases were reported from Ganjam district (268), followed by Khurda (220), Sundargarh (178), Cuttack (105) and Sambalpur (101).

The total recoveries stand at 25,737 while active case count is 14,700, The State health authorities conducted 15,086 new tests on Wednesday, taking cumulative tests to 6,00,591.
