Sambalpur: In order to curb the illegal narcotics business in the State, Odisha police on Thursday decided to act tough against drug traffickers by confiscating their property.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay in Sambalpur today.
Abhay asked senior officials to confiscate property of criminals involved in smuggling of drugs like brown sugar, ganja (dry cannabis), heroin, opium and cough syrup.
The top cop also directed superintendents of police (SPs) of five districts under northern range--Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Bolangir and Jharsuguda to focus on curbing organised crime in their respective jurisdictions. Adequate training will be imparted to police personnel to enhance their skills to deal with cyber crime more professionally, Abhay said.
Senior officials informed that DGP also stressed extensive use of information technology and other latest methods for crime detection, prevention and to curb rising cyber crimes in the State.
During the meeting, the DGP also focused on anti-Maoist operations. He asked the SPs of five districts to work in close coordination with CRPF and BSF personnel to deal with Maoist related incidents.
Abahay also reviewed the effectiveness of 5T and ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiatives and said that action will be taken in case of any negative feedback from people. After the review meeting, DGP later visited Basantpur Police Training School.
“Organised crime is a prime focus area of the DGP and a detail discussed was held over it today. As he was the director general of Narcotics Control Bureau, he focussed on curbing the drugs trade menace like ganja and cough syrup smuggling,” said Narasingha Bhol, IGP (North-Central Range).
“The DGP also stressed on confiscation of property of drug dealers and asked the SPs to focus on it,” he added.
