Deogarh: An Assistant Tax Collector of Deogarh Municipality, Rajendra Nayak was caught red-handed by the Vigilance officials while accepting a bribe of Rs 1700 on Thursday.

As per reports, Rajendra had demanded Rs 6,400 from one Shibsankar Nayak of Ward No. 5 under the municipality area for approving his House Building Plan.

However, when Shibasankar refused, Rajendra delayed the paper works. Later, Shibasankar approached the Deogarh Vigilance Division and lodged a complaint.

Based on Shibasankar's complaint, an investigation was launched by a team of Deogarh Vigilance Division led by DSP Rabindra Nayak.

"Rajendra had demanded Rs 6,400 from the complainant for approving the plan for construction of his house. He was caught by us while he was receiving the money," said DSP Rabindra Nayak.

The accused was detained by the Vigilance for interrogation. Further investigation into the case is underway.
