Bhubaneswar: Veteran Ollywood actor Ajit Das breathed his last on Sunday afternoon while undergoing treatment at a hospital here. Das was admitted to the hospital after he tested positive for COVID-19.

As soon as the news of the versatile actor's death spread, condolences from all quarters- from political leaders to personalities from the film the industry started pouring in.

Describing the late actor as a great genius, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that he had left an indelible mark in Odia film industry as a versatile actor and director.

“A former head of the department of drama at the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Ajit Das’ demise has created a great void in the Odila film industry which will take years to fill. Das will continue to live in the hearts of innumerable cine lovers of Odisha,” he added.

Similarly, Andhara Pradesh Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan, BJP national Vice President Baijayant Panda, Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Pratap Chandra Sarangi took to Twitter to express grief and condolences over the death of the prolifuc actor.

 

 

Terming Das's death as an irreparable loss to the Ollywood industry, veteran actor Uttam Mohanty said, "We are yet to recover from Bijay Mohanty's death and the passing away of him (Ajit Das) has left us in deep trauma."

Odia film director Sishir Mishra said, "I introduced Ajit Das in Sindura Bindu movie. Later, he went on acting in many movies. May his soul rest in peace."
