Odisha: HC Grants Bail To Abhay Pathak, Son In Sky King Fraud Case
Bhubaneswar: The Orissa High Court on Monday granted bail to suspended IFS officer Abhay Kant Pathak and his son Akash in connection with a cheating case registered with the Kharvel Nagar Police station in Bhubaneswar.
The court has asked the father-son due to furnish bail bond of Rs 2 lakh with two local solvent sureties each and put forth other conditions. “The petitioner shall appear before the
Investigating Officer as and when necessary and shall co-operate with the investigation and he shall not try to tamper with evidence,” the court said in its order.
A case (CR No 292/20) was registered against Pathaks at the Kharavela Nagar police station for allegedly defrauding Sky King, a Bhubaneswar-based travel agency of Rs 65 lakh.

They (Abhay and Akash) had booked chartered flights, five-star hotels and air tickets through the agency which cost around Rs 2.78 crore. However, they had paid Rs 2.13 crore while an outstanding bill of Rs 65,16,233 is yet to be cleared, the travel agency had mentioned in the complaint filed with the Commissionerate Police.
Earlier on January 27, the Vigilance Court had granted bail to the father-son duo in connection a with Disproportionate Assets case against them. They were granted ‘default’ bail after the investigating agency failed to file the charge-sheet in two months (60 days) time.
Notably, the father-son duo was arrested in November last year by the anti-corruption wing of Odisha police on charges of accumulating massive ‘ill-gotten’ wealth.
On February 24, the Orissa High Court granted conditional bail to expelled BJD leader and Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahi in connection with a fraud case filed by the State Crime Branch.
