Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday granted financial assistance of Rs 15 lakh to the kin of deceased working journalist Prabir Pradhan who succumbed to coronavirus infection on November 5.

Pradhan was a senior crime reporter with an Odia news channel and lost his life following Covid complications while under treatment.

As per the released government order, Rs 15 lakh to be released from the Government Treasury Branch, Bhubaneswar to provide assistant for the Pradhan's family.

"In accordance to Rule-7 of the Odisha Working Journalists Welfare Fund Rules-2006 read with this Department Notification N. 5829/IPR Dt. 03/06/2020. sanction is here by accorded for drawal of Rs.15,00,000—(Rupees fifteen lakh) only from Savings Banks Account No-11109338377 of the State Bank of India, Govt. Treasury Branch, Bhubaneswar to provide financial assistance in favour the ncxt of kin of the deceased working journalist Prabir Kumar Pradhan of "News18"," reads the letter.

Earlier, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik on April 27 announced Rs 15 lakh aid to the kin of journalists who may lose life due to the coronavirus pandemic.
