Bhubaneswar: A senior crime reporter with an Odia news channel succumbed to coronavirus infection which taken more than 1370 lives in the state so far.

Prabir Pradhan was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar recently after his condition deteriorated following Covid-19 infection. He is survived by his wife and minor daughter. Pradhan's father, a retired police officer, had also died of Covid-19 last month.

The senior journalist had reportedly tested positive for coronavirus sometime back. He was under home isolation while undergoing treatment. He was shifted to a private hospital after his condition worsened.

Meanwhile, fellow journalists, colleagues and friends have paid tributes to the late senior journalist. Many of them recalled their association with Pradhan in their condolence posts on social media.


Earlier, some more scribes in the state had succumbed to the deadly virus. Most of them had contracted the infection in the line of duty.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 15 lakh each to the families of two journalists who died of COVID-19 infection in July this year.

The two journalists, Priyadarshi Patnaik from Hinjili in Ganjam district and K Ch Ratnam of Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district had succumbed to the deadly virus.
