Bhubaneswar: The overall flood situation is expected to improve as there has been a drop in the inflow of water into Hirakud dam, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) said on Sunday.
In a tweet, SRC Pradeep Jena informed, “Inflow into Hirakud has started showing a decline from 4 am today. Hopefully it will reduce further.”
As per Jena, the expected peak flood flow will be around 10 lakh cusecs at Mundali which may continue for a day till tomorrow forenoon due to continuous high inflow for long duration from Chhattisgarh.

Flood like situation has cropped up in several rivers of Odisha, including Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, Baitarani, Brahmani, Jalaka and Mahanadi. However, the water level is reportedly receding in the rivers and the situation is improving.
As many as 16 persons have died in several flood-related incidents while over eight lakh people have been affected so far due to the flood, informed senior officials of Odisha government on Saturday.
Floodwater is now being released through 46 gates of Hirakud dam which is currently witnessing an inflow of 802539 cusecs and outflow of 764419 cusecs.
