Bhadrak: A family in Odisha’s Bhadrak district had to spend night outside a police station in fear for their lives after cops allegedly failed to initiate action on their complaint regarding death threats.

As per reports, Surendra Jena’s family staying at Rampur village under Bhandaripokhari Police Station entered into a verbal duel with other villagers over the construction of a road.

It is alleged that some people of the village issued death threats to Jena and his family after he refused to part with his personal land as the said road is passing through Jena’s land.

Though Jena went to the local police station after getting threats, the cops allegedly asked him to come the next day. With no other option, Jena and his family camped outside the police station last night.

“We had made it to the police station one by one because we were scared. When we reached the police station and narrated our ordeal, the IIC told us that we were lying. As there was threat to our lives, we decided to stay near the police station,” alleged Jena.

Jena’s relative Dilip informed that some people are trying to encroach upon our land. When we opposed, they threatened us to kill us, he said.

On getting information, Bijay Mohanty, the Sarpanch of Dakshinabada reached the spot and made arrangements for the accommodation for the family.

Though the police officials could not be contacted over the allegations, a team today had reached the village for a probe.
