Odisha Districts On Alert: Heavy Rainfall Likely Till August 13

Bhubaneswar: Under the impact of low pressure and a monsoon trough line passing through Odisha, heavy rainfall is likely to batter many parts of the State in the next 4 days, said the Meteorological Centre here on Monday. This is the second instance of heavy showers pounding Odisha under the influence of a LOPAR over Bay of Bengal since August.

While some areas are already experiencing heavy rainfall, the Met Centre forecast suggests that rainfall would continue till August 13 with the possibility of an increased intensity thereafter.

Speaking to OTV, weather expert Umashankar Dash said, “Mainly, south Odisha districts would experience heavy rainfall under the impact. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to lash some areas of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Rayagada, Bolangir districts where an orange warning has been issued.”

Heavy rainfall may also occur in parts of Ganjam, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nayagarh and Nuapada districts during the period, he said adding that the condition is also likely to trigger rain in many areas of the interior districts.

Rainfall activity is likely to increase after August 13, said the official.

This apart, a yellow warning has been issued for 11 districts of the State including Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Ganjam, Rayagada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Angul and Nuapada.
