Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to witness big surge in COVID-19 cases as the State detected 4208 new positives in the last 24 hours, taking the total count of coronavirus infections to 201096. Of the fresh cases, 2462 patients are in quarantine, while 1746 are local contact cases, informed State I&PR department.

The death toll has mounted to 767 as 15 more patients succumbed to the virus during the period.

Four patients have succumbed to the disease in Bhubaneswar, while three deaths were reported in Puri district, two in Mayurbhanj and one each in Cuttack, Angul, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, and Rayagada districts.

Khordha district has recorded a massive surge of 725 cases, followed by Cuttack (465), Puri (199), Angul (194), Jagatsinghpur (181), Nuapada (175) and Mayurbhanj (154), the I&PR data mentioned.

As per official report, 52882 samples were tested on Thursday for COVID-19 that include 8275 RT-PCR, 44514 samples via Antigen testing, and 93 samples via Truenat testing, taking the number of samples tested cumulatively across the state to 3009183.
