Malkangiri: A 9-year-old boy was allegedly sold by his parents in Telgabecha village in Malkangiri district after the couple parted their ways, recently. Moreover, the person, who reportedly ‘bought’ the child, allegedly used to torture and engage him for grazing cattle.

As per reports, the boy’s father and mother recently decided to end their relationship and got married separately.

The tragic tale of the boy came to light after he escaped from the house of the person who reportedly bought him and narrated his ordeal to an Anganwadi worker at Salpapadar village.

A local resident alleged that the person with whom the boy was staying was torturing him and not giving him food.

“After escaping from the house of the captor, the boy reached an Anganwadi centre. Earlier, the boy sought help from other villagers who offered him food,” said Budhadeb Mach, a local resident.

Mathili BDO, Ashish Bhoi said, “When the matter was brought to our notice, we contacted the concerned authorities. We are ascertaining if the boy was actually sold. Appropriate action will be initiated if it’s found true.”

Bhoi said steps are being taken for the boy’s safety and rehabilitation.
