Odisha: Man 'Killed, Burnt' Over Witchcraft In Malkangiri

Malkangiri: A man was allegedly killed and later set on fire over practising sorcery. The incident has been reported from Udaygiri village, one of the cut-off areas under Padia police limits of the district on Thursday.

As per complaint lodged by the family members of Baga Kabasi, some people called him out of his house yesterday and took him with them. The family alleged that they killed him with weapons near the village end and later took him around half-a-km away to the village crematorium where they burnt his body to destroy evidence.

Panicked over the incident, the aggrieved family of the deceased approached the police seeking protection and justice over the incident. A case has been registered in connection with the incident and police has reportedly initiated investigation to crack the case.

As per latest reports, some people have been detained on suspicion of being involved in the incident.

In-charge of Padia police station, Ranjan Kumar Majhi said that some locals have been levelling allegations of sorcery practice by Kabasi for quite some time, so it is suspected that someone has killed him in a pre-planned manner.
