Puri: Sudhansu of Gopalpur found his soulmate in Suchitra of Brahmagiri in Puri district. The couple recently tied the nuptial knot, in a wedding ceremony which may look common in all respects, but was significantly unique in one - both Sudhansu and Sucharita are ‘differently-abled.’
Prior to the band, baaja and baraat, cupid had struck Sudhansu and Suchitra’s during their first meeting. Though Sudhansu and Suchitra cannot speak or hear, it was no deterrent for them to acknowledge & solemnise their love for each other. Even the families received marriage proposals from different places, both Sudhansu and Suchitra had turned them down, as they wanted to marry a person with ‘similar abilities.’
“My son had rejected several proposals saying that he would marry a girl like him who cannot speak or hear as she could easily understand him,” said Dhaneswar Mohapatra, Sudhansu’s father.
It was a social activist who brought the marriage proposal for Sudhansu and after a meeting, both of them decided to settle down after marrying each other.
“Both Sudhansu and Suchitra spoke to each other in sign language and decided to get married,” said Surath Jena, social activist.
