Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown against the thriving narcotics trade in the state, Excise officials on Friday seized Ganja worth Rs 11 lakh rupees from the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.

Acting on a tip-off, the officials raided a shop in Padampur area under Balipatna police limits and seized the ganja. Police also recovered Rs 42,000 in cash.

The contraband was being transported from Kandhamal to Bhubaneswar.

Earlier on Thrusday, 13.5 quintals of ganja was seized from a vegetable truck in Bengaluru, which is said to have links to Odisha.

The Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Panth has claimed that the drug trafficking in the Capital city of Karnataka has Odisha links.

“The 46 bags of Ganja sized today have Odisha links. An investigation into the trafficking and its links is underway,” said Kamal Panth.

He further said, “The seized Ganja was first sent to Telangana from Odisha and then brought to Bengaluru in smaller consignments. These are generally sent in trucks carrying vegetable and other materials. For the first time, the whole stock of Ganja has been seized by the police.”

So far, six persons have been arrested and a case has been filed in Seshadripuram Police Station in connection with the drug trafficking, informed Panth.
