Odisha By-Elections: 200 Police Officers, 5 Flying Squads To Be Deployed In Balasore & Tirtol

Tirtol/Balasore: As the polling date of By-Elections for Tirtol and Balasore Sadar Assembly seats nears, Odisha Police has made security arrangements for the polls in both the constituencies.

Odisha DGP, Abhay on Friday reviewed the security arrangements for the bypolls. Senior police officials informed that 200 officers, 10 senior Additional SPs and DSPs, 22 Inspectors, five flying squads and 31 mobile vans will be deployed.

“I am satisfied with the security arrangements made for the upcoming bypoll and the election will be held in a peaceful manner,” Abhay said.

The review meeting was held at the office of the superintendent of police (SP) on Friday in presence of other senior officials of the State police department.

Speaking about the arrangements after the meeting, ADGP (Law and Order) Yashwant Jethwa said, “Around 21 platoons of police force and three companies of central armed force have reached Tirtol. Besides, 150 inspectors and SI and ASI rank officers have been mobilised. Eight SP and DSP rank officers will also be deployed for the bypoll.”

“Mobile teams and flying squads have been formed. All kinds of measures have been taken for smooth and peaceful conduct of the bypoll,” he said.

Jethwa further said that polling booths have been classified into sensitive, non-sensitive, critical, vulnerable categories following the direction of CEO and ECI and accordingly, presence of extra manpower, officers, CFEF, armed police have been ensured.

Informing about the preventive measures to maintain law and order in the constituency, Jethwa said, “About 75 warrantees have already been arrested and forwarded to court while 1500 anti-socials have been detained as prophylactic measures.”
