Bhubaneswar: State opposition party - BJP on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the chief electoral officer alleging violation of the model code of conduct by the ruling-BJD during campaigning for the upcoming by-polls in Balasore Sadar and Tirtol assembly constituencies.

This is reportedly for the third time in a week that the BJP has complained of alleged MCC violation by BJD and its ministers.

"In areas where there is no electricity, Energy minister Dibya Shankar Mishra assured villagers of immediate power supply and NESCO officials worked overnight to turn it into a reality. Video recording of the same along with other details has been submitted to the CEO. An FIR should be lodged against the minister and NESCO because whatever development took place was without any government order or tender," alleged senior BJP leader Lekhashree Samantsinghar.

"We have also attached a video where Tourism minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi is seen influencing the voters while campaigning for party candidate Swarup Das. The minister promised them that he will personally look after their needs which has so far remained unfulfilled," she added.

Even during the Bijepur byelections, we witnessed how the ruling-party members used muscle and money power to garner votes, alleged the State BJP general secretary.

Similarly, the Congress also moved the Chief Electoral Officer alleging MCC violation by the BJD in Tirtol. Party leader Nishikant Mishra submitted a written complaint alleging that a BJD office is operating from government quarters.

The response of the BJD could not be obtained in this connection.
