Bhubaneswar: The gazette notification for by-elections in Balasore Sadar and Tirtol Assembly Constituencies scheduled to be held on November 3 has been issued by the Election Commission (EC) on Friday.

As per the notification, the filing of nominations will begin today and continue till October 16. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on October 17 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is October 19.

Polling will be held between 7 AM to 6 PM on November 3 and the counting of votes will be held on November 10, State Chief Electoral Officer SK Lohani informed mediapersons.

It is pertinent to mention that the by-polls to the Balasore and Tirtol Assembly constituencies were necessitated following the demise of sitting BJP MLA Madan Mohan Dutta ( Balasore) and sitting BJD legislator Bishnu Das (Tritol).

The Balasore Sadar seat was won by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while the ruling BJD represented the Tirtol seat.

Earlier on September 9, the Election Commission of India announced to hold by-elections to the 56 vacant assembly constituencies across the country, including two in Odisha – Balasore Sadar and Tirtol, by November 29.
