Odisha: Brown Sugar Worth Rs 1.2 Lakh Seized In Talcher, 1 Held

Angul: Excise department seized brown sugar worth Rs 1.2 lakh at Hatatota in Talcher on Friday and arrested one person in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off, the Excise department officials raided the ITI square area and seized the contraband from the possession of the drugs peddler.

A case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered.

Earlier on November 22, police had seized about 100 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 10 lakh following a raid at Arad Bazar area in Balasore.

Police had also arrested one Munna Khan, who happens to be the brother-in-law of notorious drugs mafia Sheikh Raja. Another drugs peddler managed to escape the cops during the raid. However, police had seized Rs 23 lakh from the spot.

On November 7, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch along with Balasore Police had seized 1.105 kg brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore following a raid at Sahadevkhunta area.

Three drug peddlers – SkJamir alias Chhotu of Masjid Gali, Arada Bazar; PrabhatSethy of Nayabazar; and JasobantBagh alias Sukuras of Kasimela, all local residents had been arrested in connection with the incident.
