Balasore: The Sahadevkhunta Police on Sunday seized about 100 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 10 lakh following a raid at Arad Bazar area.

Police have also arrested one Munna Khan, who happens to be the brother-in-law of notorious drugs mafia Sheikh Raja.

Another drugs peddler managed to escape the cops during the raid. However, police seized Rs 23 lakh from the spot.

It is pertinent to mention here that Raja was earlier arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch on September 16. After his arrest, Munna Khan was allegedly handling his crime syndicate.

Raja, a resident of Sahadevkhunta area, was arrested by the CB-STF from Padmapur under Khandagiri Police limits in Bhubaneswar.

He is stated to have links with inter-state and international drugs mafia based in Nepal and Bangladesh. Several criminal cases, including extortion and firing are also pending against him at different police stations across the State.

The new haul of seizure has once again proved Balasore as one of the most infamous hub of illegal narcotics trade in Odisha.

On November 7, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch along with Balasore Police had seized 1.105 kg brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore following a raid at Sahadevkhunta area.

Three drug peddlers – Sk Jamir alias Chhotu of Masjid Gali, Arada Bazar; Prabhat Sethy of Nayabazar; and Jasobant Bagh alias Sukuras of Kasimela, all local residents were arrested in connection with the incident.

On January 28, the Special Task Force(STF) of Crime Branch on Tuesday seized around 300 grams of brown sugar worth nearly Rs 30 lakh in Balasore.
