Jharsuguda: Police on Saturday cracked the kidnapping case of Executive Engineer of Jharsuguda Rural Works Division, Manoranjan Pattnaik while arresting eight persons in connection with the incident.

Based on the complaint of Patnaik on October 7, Jharsuguda police started an investigation into the case and apprehended eight persons.

The accused have been identified as Siba Tandi (26) and Tofan Tani (20), both residents of R&W Colony in Jharsuguda are mastermind behind the case. Others have been identified as Pankaj Bag (22), Lalit Tandi (25), Sanjay Soni (33), Bulu Manahira (26), residents of Titlagarh, while Prakash Mahakud (23), Niranjan Achari (22) are residents of Muribahal area in Bolangir district.

"Some accused were arrested from Bolangir while others were nabbed from different places of Kalahandi. Police have also seized gold chain, arms and a vehicle used in the kidnapping," informed Jharsuguda SP Rahul P.R in a press meet yesterday.

As per the police, the abductors revealed during interrogation that Patnaik had taken action against a Class-IV employee identified as Rabi Tandi at his office, who happens to be the father of the main accused Siba and Tofan.

The brother duo along with some of their friends in order to exact revenge from Patnaik, kidnapped him from his residence in the intervening night of October 6 and 7, added the SP.

Patnaik was sleeping in his residence when some armed miscreants barged into his house and demanded money. He immediately took out Rs 4000 and gave it to them. They assailants also looted gold chain from Patnaik's neck and also demanded Rs 3 lakh from him.

However, when he expressed his helplessness in failing to provide the money, the miscreants forced him to sign a cheque and took him to Kesinga in Kalahandi district via Sambalpur in a vehicle to withdraw the money.

On reaching Kesinga, the miscreants compelled Patnaik to ask for someone's help to bring Rs 3 lakhs as ransom to release him. Accordingly, Patnaik called upon Srinivas Pradhan, a contractor by profession and asked him to deliver the money at the earliest.

However, due to the delay in the arrival of Srinivas, the kidnappers in fear of getting caught by police dropped Patnaik at an isolated place under Kesinga police station in Kalahandi. Later, the Executive Engineer reached the local police station and lodged an FIR.

Soon a team of Jharsuguda police rushed to Kesinga and escorted Patnaik back to Jharsuguda.
