Balasore: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan from Odisha reportedly succumbed to COVID19 in Chhattisgarh leaving his family crestfallen.

Kailash Ghadai, who was suffering from pneumonia and respiratory distress, was admitted in Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur. He was detected Covid positive and died on Thursday (July 23) while undergoing treatment.

The BSF jawan's wife who used to stay with him has also tested positive for Covid-19 and undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bhilai Durg.

“When I called him up a few days back, he told that he was down with fever and experiencing acute chest pain. Earlier, he underwent treatment at a BSF hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Raipur. When I reached there, I was not allowed to meet him. Two days after I reached home, we learnt about his death,” said the jawan’s father.

“He was supposed to come home, but could not due to coronavirus restrictions. He had told me that he would come during Durga Puja. My daughter-in-law has also tested positive. I retired from job 10 years back and he was the sole earning member for our family,” the bereaved father said.

According to sources, the report released by the Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital mentioned the cause of death as COVID and pneumonia with ARDS. The jawan’s body is yet to reach his native village.
