Bhubaneswar: After a slump due to COVID-19 lockdown, the motor vehicle (MV) revenue has gradually started picking up in Odisha.

The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) collected Rs 117 Crore motor vehicle revenue in the month of September 2020 which reflected a 31% growth over the month of August 2020 (Rs 89.5 crore). However, the revenue is still 7 % lower than the total collection in September 2019 (Rs 126 crore).

As compared to the same period last year, June 2020 revenue collection was 15% lower, July 18% and August revenue recorded a dip of 20%.

After reopening from June onwards, the MV revenue is improving gradually every month. The collection in the month of September 2020 has bridged the revenue gap to only 7 percent as compared to the same month previous year. The collection has picked up due to growing sale of new motor vehicles and collection of taxes due to increased economic activity particularly in the mining sector, the STA said in a statement.

The total revenue collection for the period from April to September 2020 stood at Rs 501 crore which is still 36 percent less compared of Rs 787 crores during the same period last financial year.
