Gajapati: Jagpati Kargi of Rayagada block in Gajapati district, who was reported missing, and later spotted living in Arunachal Pradesh hills for decades, will be soon brought back to Odisha.

Informing about the development, Gajapati district administration, in a tweet mentioned that Jagpati who is in Arunachal for the past 35 years is expected to come back to his family by August 26.

The authorities mentioned that the assistant labour officer from the district has already left to bring Jagpati back from Arunachal.

Jagpati came to limelight recently after one Rubuama, a local teacher of Lower Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh posted a video of him on social media and said, “I have been seeing this man since 2003. He has been living in the local hillside for years and he is from Odisha’s Gajapati district.”

Even though nobody knows exactly how he reached Arunachal as Jagpati also has faint memories of his past, it is said that he went away from his home in search livelihood and never returned. But as years passed by and he grew older, he started foraging and retire in the foothills. Around 2003, Rubuama met Jagpati and became fond of him. He started to see him regularly to provide food and ration.

After a video showing his plight was posted by Rubuama, former Gajapati SP Sarah Sharma came to know about him from her JNU alumni group and helped coordinate with his family.
