Malkangiri: Continuing their crackdown against the red rebels, the BSF Jawans in Malkangiri seized a huge quantity of gelatin explosives during anti-Maoist operations at Rajulkunda forests under Kalimela block of the district on Thursday.

Acting on concrete information, jawans of the 76 Border Security Force (BSF) battalion launched combing operation in the jungle and discovered around 21 kg gelatin explosives stuffed in sacks and dumped in different locations of the forest range.

On many occasions, the left-wing extremists have used these explosives for land mines to target police personnel and BSF jawans engaged in the combing operations. Such a seizure seems a major victory as sources claimed the Maoists were planning to plant landmines targeting police.

This comes a day after the Maoists unleashed terror in Bijapur of Chhattisgarh bordering Odisha’s Malkangiri district when two elected representatives were brutally murdered in front of villages on the suspicion of being police informers. The deceased have been identified as Dhaniram Korsa, a former deputy sarpanch of Bardela village and Gopal Kudiyam of nearby Gongla village.

Both the incidents took place under Jangla Police limits on Wednesday night, SP Kamal Lochan Kashyap informed.
