Koraput: The security forces on Monday unearthed a Maoist dump and recovered huge quantity of explosives near the Koraput-Malkangiri border. The explosives were seized during a joint combing operation carried out by the BSF and the Koraput District Voluntary Force (DVF).
Giving details of the seizure, Koraput SP Mukesh Bhamoo said, “Based on an intelligence input on the movement of nearly 15-20 armed Maoist cadres, an operation was launched by a joint team of BSF and Koraput DVF. On spotting the security personnel, the Maoists ultras fled.”
The security personnel later stumbled upon the explosive dump, following which a Bomb Detection and Disposal (BDD) team was summoned which made the recovery from the spot. The explosives, stored in a drum, were hidden under the soil.
“The explosives were dumped by the Maoists with an intention to target the security forces,” said Bhamoo.
The seized explosives include- slurry and emulsion explosives (18 pcs), gelatin (500 pcs), camera flash (3 pcs), wire (15 mts), splinters (1200gms) and other Naxal literature.
