Malkangiri: In a major seizure, the Malkangiri Police and the District Voluntary Force (DVF) in a joint combing operation busted a Maoist hideout in a stronghold area of Left-wing extremists (LWE) in Malkangiri district bordering Andhra Pradesh along the extension of Swabhiman Anchal, and recovered IEDs and other Maoist articles from the camp on Tuesday.

The Maoist dump recovered contained 2 IEDs, 20 kg codex wire, 120 detonators and wires intended to be used for the preparation of IEDs for subversive designs targeting innocent civilians and security forces.

Based on specific intelligence input yesterday, Malkangiri police team and DVF launched a combing operation in the area and successfully recovered Maoist dump from the Odisha-AP bordering area along Swabhiman Anchal. Two IEDs have been recovered along with other Maoists articles and it is suspected that these IEDs were intended to target civilians and police forces.

This Maoist dump contained one steel container containing 10 kg of Codex wire and one bucket with a cover containing 10 kg of Codex wire, 50 electrical detonators, 70 plain detonators and about 50 mt of electric wire. The codex wire had been kept with multiple knots with a view to multiplying its blasting power.

"This is a major jolt to the subversive and anti-national designs of Maoists in this area. We are suspecting that these explosives belonged to the Maoists cadres of AOBSZC which were intended to be used against innocent civilians and security forces to carry out their subversive, anti-national activities. In the wake of recovery, further combing and search operations are going on in this area," said the district Police.
