Bhubaneswar: Days after a dramatic rescue of a man threatening suicide from atop the Parija library in Utkal University, fire services personnel today saved another man in capital city who threatened to end his life by jumping from a tree near Lower PMG.

According to sources, onlookers witnessed a man threatening to commit suicide from the top of a tall tree near Lower PMG area of the city in the morning today. Informed, police and fire services personnel rushed to the spot and immediately rescued the man from the tree.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the man named Madhu Chhatria, a resident of Bolangir was working as a Gaon Sathi and had come to Bhubaneswar to join an agitation launched by their association over various issues in Lower PMG area.

Asked about the incident, Madhu clarified, “Prior to the general elections, the government assured us to provide Rs 6500 as monthly assistance and adequate work for Gaon Sathis but after coming to power, the government is trying to get rid of us. It is very disappointing.”

It may be mentioned that a high drama unfolded at Vani Vihar campus in the capital city on Friday when a native of Kendrapara suspected to be mentally unsound was rescued while bidding to end his life from 120 ft-high Parija Library building. A day later another youth, also stated to be suffering from mental illness, was prevented from climbing up a bamboo scaffolding on a department building in Cuttack SCB.
