Bhubaneswar: In a fresh development in the sensational Mahanaga double murder in January this year, the prime accused in the case, Prafulla Biswal, was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Govindpur area at Tangi in Cuttack district on Saturday morning.

It is suspected that Biswal, who was absconding following the brutal killings was run over by a speeding vehicle late Friday night.

However, neither Biswal’s family members nor have the police officials commented on the exact reason behind Biswal’s death. Police have recovered Biswal’s mobile phone and bike from the spot.

It is pertinent to mention here that former Mahanga block chairman Kulamani Baral and his associate Dibyasingha were brutally killed by unidentified miscreants on January 2.

Both Kulamani and Dibyasingha were returning home on a bike when some miscreants attacked them with sharp-edged weapons near Jankoti in Mahanga of Cuttack.

Kulamani was declared brought dead at Mahanga CHC while Dibyasingha succumbed to injuries during treatment at SCB Hospital in Cuttack.

The double murder incident had sparked public outrage with BJP targeting the BJD-led Odisha government by alleging the involvement of Minister Pratap Jena behind the killings.

The son of deceased Kulamani had lodged an FIR against 13 persons including ruling-BJD Minister Pratap Jena.

Later police had arrested as many as eight persons for their alleged involvement in the double murder case.
