The low pressure, which is now on the coastal regions of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, is likely to cross the state and enter Chattisgarh.
The met department forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall in most parts of the state due to the low pressure. Under the influence of the low pressure, winds with speeds reaching 40-45 km per hour are likely to be experienced along and off the coast.
As per the meteorology officials, the highest rainfall has been recorded to be 137mm in Khariar of Nuapara district. In addition, a rainfall of 91mm, 87 mm, 72mm, 69mm, 22mm and 43mm has been recorded in Jaypatna, Komna, Hindol, Titilagarh, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar respectively in the last 24 hrs.
Besides this, the heavy rainfall in the upper catchments has increased the water level in Mahanadi, Rushikulya and Banshadhara.
The water level of Banshdhara is flowing above the danger mark at Kashinagar. The water level is likely to rise further due to the incessant rain.
Meanwhile, authorities of Gota barrage at Hirmandalam in Andhra Pradesh have opened all the 22 sluice gates of the barrage due to the rising water level in Banshadhara.
