Koraput: Netrananda Dandasena, convict in Tikiri lady teacher Itishree Pradhan murder case, died on Monday while undergoing treatment at Saheed Laxman Nayak (SLN) Medical College and Hospital here.

Informing this to OTV, Koraput circle jail superintendent Raj Kumar Sahu said, “Dandasena was admitted to SLN Medical College and Hospital late last night after he complained of illness. He died this morning while undergoing treatment at the hospital.”

“He was fine till last evening. The doctors are yet to share the reason behind his death,” Sahu informed.

Terming the death of Netrananda as a conspiracy, his daughter alleged, "The district administration and police have killed my father who was otherwise innocent. I want CBI inquiry into this case."

Similarly, his wife, Abha Dandasena demanded justice for her husband. "We will kill ourselves by consuming poison if justice was not done in this case," warned Abha.

Dandasena was shifted to Koraput circle jail from Rayagada jail in 2016.

Notably on 26 April 2016, the District and Session Court of Rayagada awarded life term to Dandasena, then Inspector of Schools (SI), in the sensational Tikiri lady teacher murder case.

On October 27, 2013, Itishree was set ablaze after pouring kerosene on her in the premises of the school, where she was staying. She succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment in Vizag on November 1, 2013.

The State government had ordered a Crime Branch probe into the death on November 2, 2013 following an uproar over the issue.

Later on 21 January 2015, the Supreme Court had directed Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe into the murder case while hearing a PIL filed by Bangalore-based Odia law graduate Sudipta Lenka.

The apex court on 24 November 2017 disposed off the murder case after CBI failed to trace the main accused in the crime.
