Bhubaneswar: BJP’s State unit president K.V. Singhdeo today alleged that there is large-scale corruption in promotion of teachers in various colleges across the State. Raising the issue on the basis of CAG report, he said some State government officials are now members of some college governing bodies.
There are some teachers who got promoted even without undertaking the second refreshal course, which is mandatory for getting a promotion, Singhdeo pointed out while addressing journalists at a media conference here.
Demanding a thorough probe into the matter, the BJP leader also asked the government to take back the money the promotees that they have earned through such a raise.
As of now, a good number of teaching posts are lying vacant in many educational institutions across the State and around 43 percent of them are yet be to filled in government colleges, Singhdeo said.
Reacting to the allegations, Higher Education minister Pradeep Panigrahi said, “The government is taking steps to fill up 1,600 teaching posts through Service Selection Board (SSB) in non-aided colleges.”
On composition of college governing bodies, the minister claimed that only eligible candidates were appointed as per the Odisha Education Act.
