Kanha, the boy with ‘Werewolf Syndrome’, discharged from MKCG

Berhampur: Almost a month after undergoing plastic surgery treatment at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here, Kanha, the five-year-old boy from Gayaganda village of Ganjam district suffering from a rare skin syndrome, was today discharged from the hospital.

As per reports, the boy had excess hair and flesh growth on his body- a disorder known as the ‘Werewolf Syndrome’.

The excess flab of flesh present on the left side of his face was removed during the first phase of recuperative surgery conducted on July 26. However, there is still a big mass of flesh hanging from his chest, informed doctors treating him.

Before discharging him, the doctors recommended Kanha for a check-up after 15 days while further stating that subsequent surgeries would be conducted after three months according to the boy’s response to the treatment and his health condition.

As per sources, a team of 12 doctors including the Head of the Department (HOD) of Plastic Surgery Raju Das and Superintendent and Dean of the MKCG conducted the preliminary laser and skin grafting surgery to cure the boy.

Prof Raju Das said, “Kanha has been discharged today. The CDMO of Ganjam has taken the complete responsibility and we have facilitated everything for him and his family to reach their house. Kanha is very happy riding a bicycle he has been gifted.”

Meanwhile, Kanha’s father Ramchandra Nayak said, “He is recovering. Next operation will be conducted after three months. I have four kids to look after and I don’t have enough money. It will be difficult for me to manage things during the next surgery if I don’t get financial aid from anyone.”
