“Senior police officers interacted about various problems regarding law and order situation, about crime and of course how to combat the Maoist menace,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told reporters.
Chairing the closing ceremony of 55th Annual IPS Conference here, the CM also emphasized on inducting qualitative manpower in the state.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the growing Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the state and spoke about modernization of the state police to stop the red terror and other ancillary crimes.
The CM also praised the state police for successful tackling of Maoist menace in the state.
In comparison to 2009, in 2010 the state police have performed better in tackling the left wing extremists in the state. CM Naveen Patnaik has also appealed to strengthen the central force and state police that have been instrumental during their joint combing operations.
“Discussions were held regarding modernization of state police, inducting manpower and training them and protecting the human right laws properly,” Chief Secretary Bijay Patnaik said.
“We discussed how to increase the manpower both in terms of quantity and quality. We also put forth several proposals before the Chief Minister and he has also assured to consider them,” Police DG Manmohan Praharaj said.
As per reports, the state police have conducted 214 special operations in the last three months and have apprehended 91 ultras out of which 24 ultras have been killed during cross firings.
