Bhubaneswar: After making helmets mandatory for pillion riders, the Odisha government has now come up with stricter penalties for the violators.
The State Transport Authority (STA) on Saturday clarified that the driving license of the biker will be not only be suspended for three months if found with pillion riders without helmets but he or she will have to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 for the violations.
In a tweet, the STA informed that already a massive enforcement and awareness on use of helmet by both driver and pillion on two wheelers is being carried out across the State.
“In case both the rider and pillion do not put on helmets, the DL of the person driving is suspended for three months in addition to challan of Rs 1000,” tweeted STA.
A violator in Bhubaneswar, who was caught not wearing helmet, said, “People should be aware and I will certainly follow the rules from tomorrow.”
Another person who also had to face the police crackdown said, “The enforcement authorities checked documents and warned us that we will be fined next time for the violation. I had not brought helmet as there is provision to keep one helmet in the bike.”
