Bhubaneswar: The state government on Friday said that it has already repealed the Green Card system of family planning since November last year.
Stating that the Green Card system was introduced in the state to control the population boom in the early 80s, the minister said as many as 6,02,336 couples had been provided with facilities under the system.
The couples holding Green Cards were being given homestead land, five percent financial assistance to build houses, five percent reservation on home loans for couples belonging to lower and middle-income groups, reservation for their children in technical education institutes, incentives, and draw of lottery, the minister said.
He said the highest number of 44,378 couples in the Cuttack district have been provided with Green Cards while only 1,941 couples could get benefits from the scheme in the Boudh district.
