This was stated by revenue minister S N Patro after releasing the provisional population totals-2011 for the state. "It is a dangerous trend that the child sex ratio in four districts was registered below 900 mark," Patro said.
The four districts which registered child sex ratio below 900 mark were: Nayagarh (851), Angul (884), Dhenkanal (870) and Ganjam (899).
The state`s total sex ratio was 978 in 2011 against 972 in 2001, the census data said.
The sex ratio of the child population of the state in the age group of zero to six years has come down from 953 during 2001 census to 934 during 2011 census which is lower than the sex ratio of the total population and population aged seven and above.
Among the state`s total 30 districts, the highest sex ratio in the child population (988) is recorded in the district of Nabarangpur where as the lowest sex ratio in the child population (851) is recorded in the district of Nayagarh.
During 2001 census the highest sex ratio of 999 was recorded in the district of Nabarangpur where as the lowest sex ratio in the child population of 904 was recorded in Nayagarh.
There are ten districts which have recorded the sex ratio of more than 1000 during 2011 census in the population aged seven and above where as there are nine districts in the state where the sex ratio was more than 1000 during 2001 in this age group.
It reveals that there are 13 districts in the child sex ratio range of 916-950 and 10 districts in the range of 951-985 as per 2011 census. But during 2001 census there were 16 districts in the child sex ratio in the range of 951-985 and 12 districts in the range of 916-950
Of the state`s total population of 41,947,358 (21,201,678 males and 20,745,680 females), 27,211,376 persons (73.45 per cent) were literate.
While the male literacy ratio was 82.40 per cent, the female ratio was 64.36 per cent.
