Rourkela: A palpable tension prevailed in IDC area of Rourkela in Sundergarh district on Monday following the death of two labourers due to a gas leakage at a sponge iron factory.
As per reports, the victims Ajay Samad and Pankaj Kerketta were taken ill when gas started to leak while they were cleaning gas furnace at Puja sponge iron factory yesterday at around 9 pm. Later, they were rushed to Rourkela Government Hospital for treatment where doctor declared them brought dead.
Alleging security lapses at the sponge iron factory, family members of the deceased along with some locals staged protest in the area. They claimed that four persons were killed in a similar incident at another sponge iron factory in the area five years ago.
Meanwhile, Brahmani Tarang police has initiated an investigation into the matter.
