Cuttack: Intensifying its drive against the ongoing organized extortions in the State, police on Friday arrested notorious criminal Sayed Abdul Mutaquid alias Muna Laden reportedly for extorting 'dadabati' from land brokers and land sale deals. Laden is stated to be a principal aide and right hand of dreaded gangster Sayed Usman Ali alias Tito of Kendrapara district.

A case was registered at the Darghabazar Police Station here under sections 341/ 323/ 294/ 353/ 387/ 506/ 34 IPC r/w 25/27 Arms Act, informed Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh.

Addressing a presser, Singh informed, "SI Jagannath Sahu of Darghabazar Police Station was patrolling in the area when he received information regarding extortion near Ravenshaw Collegiate School. Around 4-5 people had detained a man demanding extortion from him. Based on the tip-off when police rushed to the spot, the extortionists tried to flee the scene but were nabbed after a brief chase. The cops successfully caught hold of Muna Laden, who happens to be a member of the Tito gang and is actively associated with them."

The police also seized a 9 MM pistol, 6 rounds ammunition, and a magazine from his possession.

Earlier this week, Cuttack CDA-II Police along with the special squad and cyber cell had arrested three close associates of Dhalasamanta Brothers including former corporator of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Ranjita Biswal on the charges of demanding extortion.

As per police sources, Rs 1 lakh extortion money was seized from the house of D-Brothers. The arrestees were collecting 'dadabati' from Balighat contractors and businessmen reportedly at the behest of D-Brothers - Sushil and Sushant Dhalasamant.
