Cuttack: Gangster Sheikh Haider, who had escaped from SCB Medical College and Hospital last week and was recaptured on Thursday, has tested positive for Covid-19.

After Hyder’s RT-PCR test report came out positive, he has been shifted to the isolation ward in Choudwar jail. His remand has also been put on hold.

“The gangster was scheduled to be taken on a seven-day remand by the Commissionerate Police (CP) today. However, the remand has been postponed as he tested positive for Covid-19,” said Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh.

Police will reapply for his remand before the court once his isolation period gets over, sources said.

The notorious criminal, who had escaped from SCB hospital while undergoing treatment on April 10, was nabbed by a special team of Cuttack police from Sangareddy district of Telangana.

Hyder was traveling on a bike in the evening when the motorcycle-borne police team of Cuttack district with the help of Telangana police caught hold of him.

Hyder had escaped from ward number 5 of the surgery ward of SCB hospital after overpowering an APR guard who was on his security duty. He was lodged in Sambalpur circle jail and was shifted to SCB for treatment.
