Cuttack: Five days after he escaped from SCB Medical College and Hospital, Odisha police on Thursday claimed to have nabbed the notorious gangster, Sheikh Hyder.

A special team of Cuttack police nabbed Hyder from Telangana, informed Twin City Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi.

“Notorious criminal, who had escaped from SCB hospital on April 10 has been nabbed by a special team of Cuttack police from Sangareddy district of Telangana,” Priyadarshi told mediapersons, adding that Hyder will be brought to Odisha within 24 hours.

“Hyder was travelling on a bike in the evening today when our motorcycle-borne police team of Cuttack district with the help of Telangana police caught hold of him,” the CP said.

The development came hours after a team of the Commissionerate Police visited SCB hospital and inquired into the circumstances leading to the escape of the gangster amid allegations of a well-planned conspiracy behind it.

The police team examined all the treatment related documents of the gangster like for which aliment he was shifted to the hospital, allotment of a cabin, doctor on duty on the day of his escape and other details. The team also held discussion with SCB superintendent and HOD of the surgery ward.

Lucy Das, superintendent of SCB, said the police had not informed the hospital authorities that a notorious criminal like Hyder was brought for treatment.
