Bhubaneswar: Taking suo motu cognizance of the explosion in a CNG storage unit of a petrol pump near Raj Bhawan in Bhubaneswar Wednesday afternoon, the Commissionerate Police has registered a case at Capital PS here and launched an investigation in connection with the incident.

At least nine persons were injured, two of them critically after an underground CNG storage unit at the petrol pump exploded at around 1.30 PM yesterday ejecting a massive fire.

One of the two persons who were admitted to SCB Medical in Cuttack yesterday died while undergoing treatment today morning while another person is undergoing critical care.

Commissioner of Police for Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Sudhansu Sarangi had stated that when CNG was filled from a tanker to the canister unit, it accidentally caught fire leading to the explosion.

Following the mishap, the Twin City Commissionerate Police had declared the road from Rajbhavan Square to Gopabandhu Square as 'No Plying Zone' till restoration of normalcy and the commuters at both ends have been requested to take alternate route accordingly.
