Bhubaneswar: With the lethal novel Coronavirus winging faster spread in the country, and when WHO has asked to maintain a distance of 2-feet to avoid COVID-19 transmission, Country's leading online catering service provider, Zomato, has announced some significant safety and hygiene measures to curb the spread of the pandemic disease.

The founder of Zomato, Deepinder Goyal, informed that efforts have been undertaken to ensure ‘contactless’ delivery of food at the doorsteps of the customers as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.

"Contactless food delivery is already available on the Zomato app through our ‘delivery instructions’ feature. An app update over the weekend will make this explicitly clear to everyone," tweeted Goyal.

The delivery executive will keep the food packet on a clean surface outside the door, and the consumer receives a photo of the delivered food. The consumer can then pick up the package at their convenience, says a report by yourstory.com.

Goyal further stated that with the right practices, and adequate social distancing, the spread of COVID-19 can be checked.

Sources said Zomato is also working on plans to provide compensation for its delivery boys, if they contract with COVID-19.

The online catering service provider has issued certain dos for its delivery boys. It has asked all the staff engaged in the delivery of food to self-quarantine or immediately consult a doctor if they develop any Covid-19 symptoms.

“Such initiatives can certainly help contain the outbreak,” said Sweta, a resident of Bhubaneswar.

She further added that as most of the people in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar are ordering food from Zomato, Swiggy and others, the companies should give stress on hygiene in view of the coronavirus outbreak.

Though not a single positive case has been reported in Odisha, adequate measures are being taken by Odisha government to create awareness about the coronavirus.
