Bhubaneswar: A 32-year-old man was arrested on Sunday by Commnissionerate Police on the charges of cheating a woman by impersonating himself as a journalist. The accused has been identified as Padmanav Nayak, who identified himself as the top news head of DD National.

Police sources said Nayak had approached the complainant with an assurance to help her build a web channel and taken Rs 97,000 from her for the purpose.

Based on the complaint filed by the victim, the Airfield police station had registered a case under Indian Penal Code sections 420 against the accused who was arrested today.

On October 26, as many as six people including five journalists were arrested by Commissionerate Police on the charges of extorting Rs 1.5 lakh from a private company.

As per reports, the five journalists were reportedly working for a web-channel. All of them were arrested by Khandagiri police.

The accused had allegedly demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from a ‘Ghee’ manufacturing company after threatening them.

Bhubaneswar DCP, Umashankar Dash had informed that the owner of the company had lodged a complaint alleging that seven persons ransacked property and forcibly took Rs 99,000 and Rs 31,000 in two instalments.
