Bhubaneswar: A man sustained bullet injuries after an ex-Indian army personnel opened fire at him over some trivial matter in Bharatpur area under Khandagiri Police Station of Bhubaneswar late Monday night.

The injured has been identified as Kunjabihari Behera and he works as a medical assistant in a private hospital here. His health condition is stated to be stable now.

The ex-army personnel identified as Ashwini Rout is reportedly the neighbour of Behera and has been arrested by Khandagiri Police in connection with the incident.

“Rout under the influence of alcohol used to abuse all his neighbours and often picked up fights with those who oppose him,” alleged Behera.

Yesterday, Rout came in an inebriated state and started quarrelling with Behera. The situation turned ugly after Rout took out a double barrel rifle and fired five rounds of gunshots at him injuring Behera’s left arm.

Subsequently, Behera was rushed to a hospital for treatment. Police rushed to the spot after receiving information and arrested Rout. Police have also seized the gun from Rout’s possession.
