Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday sealed Silicon Institute of Technology on the charges of violation of the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) issued to check Covid-19 spread.

As per preliminary reports, the concerned engineering college was served a show-cause notice on Monday. The college was subsequently sealed after the authorities could not provide any satisfactory reply to the show-cause notice, BMC officials said.

Earlier, a coaching centre at Jayadev Vihar area in the Capital city was sealed after gross violations in observance of the Covid-19 protocols were found during a surprise inspection by the enforcement team on Monday.

A coaching centre was also sealed after more than 20 students tested positive for Covid-19 last week. Prior to that, premier management institute, the Xavier Institute of Management (XIM), had been sealed after 45 students and faculty had tested positive for the virus.

It is pertinent to mention here that Covid-19 cases are rising each passing day in Odisha. The State reported 588 new cases in the past 24 hours. Of the total 588 Covid-19 cases, a maximum of 1-5 cases were reported from Khordha district alone.
