Bhubaneswar: A private coaching centre at Jaydev Vihar in the city has been sealed for allegedly violating covid-19 guidelines on Monday.

The action has been taken by the enforcement squad of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a bid to curb the rising number of fresh positive cases in the Capital city.

The civic body will continue its crackdown on various educational institutions across the city today, BMC sources said. All the deputy Commissioners in three zones of the municipal corporation have been asked to conduct raids and checks in their respective jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, a plus-II commerce student tested positive for the virus at the BJB higher secondary school. Other students who came in close contact with the infected student have been advised to remain under home isolation for a week.

The school authorities have decided to conduct RT-PCR test on other students.

The BMC action comes close on the heels of a similar move at another coaching centre which was sealed after more than 20 students tested positive a week ago. Prior to that, premier management institute, the Xavier Institute of Management (XIM), had been sealed after 45 students and faculty had tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, Odisha today breached the 500-mark in the number of daily positive cases with 573 fresh infections having been reported in last 24 hours. Khordha district reported the highest daily spike at 96.

Similarly, Sundergarh district stood second with 80 new cases followed by Nuapada (60), Bargarh (43), Jharsuguda (39), Angul (32), Cuttack (28) and Kalahandi (24).
