Rayagada: Chief District Medical Officer of Rayagada, Shiva Prasad Padhi who was suspended by Odisha government for not joining his duties despite order cancelling holidays of all officials in view of cyclone Fani, has breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bangalore on Tuesday.

According to sources, the State government had cancelled leaves of all doctors and employees under health department till May 15 in view of the cyclone, but by the time the government had issued a circular in this connection, Padhi was already bed-ridden and was undergoing treatment for cancer at a hospital in Bangalore. Later as he could not resume his services, the State government placed him under suspension.

However, after coming to know about his illness, the State government cancelled the suspension order against Padhi and reinstated him as the CDMO of Rayagada.

Padhi died of cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment on Tuesday. His body was brought to Odisha today.
